Be Wound Aware consumer campaign update
Tuesday, 13 May 2025

Wounds Australia's multi-year Be Wound Aware campaign is designed to increase Australia's awareness of chronic wounds – the warning signs, sources of advice in the community, prevention strategies and more. With significant progress already made, we report here on more activity leading up to Wound Awareness Week in September.

Back-to-basics information for consumers

Eleven informative factsheets covering everything from acute wound care to professional support for chronic wounds are available at woundaware.org, the home of our Be Wound Aware campaign.

These factsheets are now available in the top five non-English languages spoken in Australian homes – Arabic, Cantonese, Mandarin, Punjabi and Vietnamese – helping us penetrate harder to reach communities. And as an official partner of Healthdirect – one of the most frequently accessed sources of evidence-based health information in the country – our resources are reaching more people than ever before, thanks to a dedicated Wounds Australia partner page.

Consumer Insights Survey

In early 2025 we held an exclusive briefing for Wounds Australia members, sharing the findings of a survey into consumer behaviour and attitudes towards wound identification, care and prevention. The survey revealed fascinating insights into how Australians manage wounds, and its findings will direct our campaign messaging, helping us fill knowledge gaps with educational content that resonates with target groups. Catch the webinar on demand in our Member's Area Webinar Library (requires log in).

Educating consumers through social media

Earlier we announced the launch of dedicated @woundaware accounts on TikTok, Facebook and Instagram that will host accessible, easy to understand information for non-professionals.

Since then, our multimedia team has been busy creating a series of short videos that will communicate the basics of good wound care. These are presented by expert clinicians including the Chair of our Clinical Expert Advisory Group and APNA Nurse of the Year Melissa Freeman, and will launch in May, ramping up ahead of Wound Awareness Week (1-7 September).

Expert and consumer guidance

The Clinical Expert Advisory Panel and the Consumer Advisory Group established to consult on the Be Wound Aware campaign have been reviewing our resources and helping shape our strategy, and both groups are about to meet for the second time in 2025.

We have many other campaign outputs in the pipeline, so stay tuned for more updates! Please contact our Project Communications Officer, Steph Shave, via email with questions and suggestions: steph.shave@woundsaustralia.org.
