Wounds Australia's new partnership with Savers® Australia
Thursday, 6 February 2025

A new collaboration with leading thrift retailer Savers® will help us reach even more people living with chronic wounds. Wounds Australia is the first new Savers® Australia not-for-profit partner in 15 years, joining long-time partners Red Nose Australia and Diabetes Victoria.

The relationship sees Wounds Australia become the not-for-profit partner of a new Savers® Australia thrift superstore opening in Marleston, Adelaide, on 20 February

The store receives community donations of clothing and household goods on behalf of Wounds Australia and pays us for those goods, offering a valuable revenue stream that supports our work.

The Marleston store is the 15th Savers® in the country and the fourth in South Australia. The renowned global thrift retailer has a rich 25-year history of championing reuse in Australia, helping to divert more than 7.5 million kilos of textile waste from landfill each year (FY 2023).

Wounds Australia CEO Jeff Antcliff said he was delighted to announce the partnership.

"Working with Savers® will allow us to reach even more people living and working with wounds," Mr Antcliff said. "It has been a pleasure to discover a partner with a deep understanding of our mission and a genuine willingness to support our work.

"We look forward to working with Savers® to minimise the harm caused by wounds while reducing waste to landfill."

Savers® Australia Managing Director Michael Fisher emphasised the importance of the new partnership in creating both social and environmental impact.

"Savers'® not-for-profit partnerships are a core part of our commitment to social responsibility and reinforce our dedication to making a positive impact in the communities we serve," Mr Fisher said. "This partnership highlights how secondhand shopping can go beyond sustainability, supporting organisations like Wounds Australia while reducing waste and making a positive impact on people's lives."

How it works:

  • Generous Australians donate their quality used goods.
  • Savers® accepts these donations on behalf of Wounds Australia and pays us for these goods, helping us fund programs in the local community.
  • This process helps support reducing landfill while helping Wounds Australia continue its work.

Benefits

Mr Antcliff said the partnership supported the goal of achieving long-term sustainability set out in the Wounds Australia Strategic Plan 2024-27. Furthermore, it bolsters the organisation's work to increase public awareness of chronic wounds by reaching new audiences through in store messaging and driving traffic to the Wound Aware website

"An added bonus for us is in finding a partner who shares our commitment to environmental sustainability, a growing area of work for us," Mr Antcliff said. "We expect to share more news on our work towards environmental responsibility in coming months."
