Wounds Australia and DEBRA Australia join forces
Tuesday, 15 April 2025

Wounds Australia is pleased to announce a new affiliation with DEBRA Australia that aims to improve wound care in a rare disease community.

DEBRA Australia is the national not-for-profit supporting people living with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) – a rare, genetic condition characterised by extremely fragile skin, painful blistering, and chronic wounds. This collaboration unites the strengths of both organisations to raise awareness and improve the prevention and management of chronic wounds in those affected by EB.

By sharing knowledge and resources, the partnership aims to drive better outcomes across Australia's wound care landscape.

A shared commitment to care

Wounds Australia CEO Jeff Antcliff said: "People living with EB experience severe and ongoing wound challenges. By partnering with DEBRA Australia, we can improve education, support best practice, and ultimately help deliver better care for this vulnerable community."

DEBRA Australia provides direct support to people living with EB through its EB Nurse and Family Support Program, medical supplies, aids and equipment, and funding for research into EB care and treatment.

DEBRA Australia CEO Mary-Jean Howard said the partnership would strengthen advocacy and amplify awareness: "Wound care is central to managing EB. Working with Wounds Australia allows us to share our lived experience and expertise to support better clinical understanding and patient care."

Stronger together

Under the partnership, DEBRA Australia and Wounds Australia will:

  • Promote awareness of each other's work to members and supporters
  • Share educational materials and clinical knowledge
  • Meet regularly to explore opportunities in education, research and best practice
  • Offer reciprocal support at conferences and events.
The partnership is non-financial, with both organisations agreeing to promote one another and collaborate on shared goals to improve wound care outcomes.
